Do you wonder sometimes what you're going to serve your family to eat? Do you typically run out of food before the end of the month? Are you always trying to think of new things to cook? Perhaps you need some tips on meal planning.

Why is meal planning important? Meal planning has many benefits. One of the most important benefits is to help you provide healthy meals for you and your family.

What is meant by healthy or nutritious food or a meal? For the average person, this means variety of foods consisting of whole grain beans, and cereals, fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products and lean meats and beans. People need more than forty different nutrients to stay healthy and these nutrients include: vitamins and minerals, proteins, fats, carbohydrates and water.

No one food can supply all the essential nutrients in amounts you need to stay healthy. Proper planning helps you ensure that your body is getting enough of the things you need and less of those things you do not need.

Now, why plan ahead? Well planned meals can save time and money, and provide a proper amount of nutrients for good health. By planning the week's or month's meals ahead of time, you can make a grocery list and stick to it, take advantage of those weekly specials you see in your super market. Clipping and use coupons, they are in the paper every Sunday. Reduce food waste and spoilage by better utilizing those leftovers.

As far as nutrition is concerned the important thing to remember is to include a variety of foods to help you prepare well-balanced, attractive meals. Try new foods often. Good luck with your planning.
