Cooperative Extension Service to help in communities' recovery efforts
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Ark. - Arkansans have dealt with more than their share of
Mother Nature's wrath during the past few months.
However, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture is ready to help
those Arkansas communities devastated by recent tornadoes and floods.
Dr. Deborah Tootle, associate extension professor in the Community and
Economic Development Department, will conduct a workshop in Mountain View on
coping with the consequences of disasters and moving forward with community
recovery.
The workshop will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, April 28 at First
Baptist Church in Mountain View.
The "Triumph Over Tragedy" program is designed to help community officials,
responders and residents understand the anatomy of a disaster, cope with the
psychological and sociological impacts of disaster and begin the long-term
recovery process.
Tootle, who headed up a Hurricane Recovery Task Force for the Louisiana State
University AgCenter in 2005, worked with communities destroyed by Katrina and
Rita.
The workshop, which is sponsored by North Central Arkansas Regional Economic
Development and the Bank of Mountain View, is open to the public. No
reservations are necessary.
For more information, contact Pamela Kirby at (870) 269-3815.
The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the U of A Division of

martial or veteran status or any other legally protected status. Persons with
disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program
information (large print, audiotapes, etc.) should notify the county extension
office as soon as possible prior to the program.
