What does the Arkansas Extension Service Do?

Our Extension specialists and agents work around the state to present programs - mostly free of charge - to all Arkansans. Pictured above is the Arkansas State Hospital vegetable garden shown by Larry Farmer, an instructor at the hospital.  The garden was a rehabilitation project for patients and was created with help from Pulaski County agent Randy Forst and the Little Rock Master Gardener club

Never heard of the Extension Service? Not sure what we do? Completely confused by organizational purposes, missions, goals and objectives? OK, here's what we do.

The Arkansas Extension Service exists to help you. It's as simple as that.

We make the research work for YOU.

We use the results of scientific research, much of it conducted at the University of Arkansas system colleges and our research stations, to help you improve your life and your community. We're basically a go-between between you and the scientists. There is a lot of innovation and creation happening at the Extension Service and other land-grant universities across the United States, but it doesn't always make it out of the labs and into the public. We take the guesswork out of the research and present the science-based techniques to you in a way that's helpful in YOUR life.

We answer YOUR questions.

Whether its a new crop variety, information about keeping your food safe, how to have a positive influence on kids, or how to develop your small business, we take what the scientists and experts tell us and use it to share information you can use, to answer your questions and to create programs that will make a difference all at a very low cost or free of charge.

We are in YOUR county.

With a physical office in every one of the 75 Arkansas counties, the people of the Arkansas Extension Service are reaching out to you. We want to help. So let's get connected. Find your county extension office, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, share your photos with us on Instagram and check out our videos on YouTube.
